The Cloister Bookstore has been a provider of books and stationery to the Barbadian public for over 50 years. One of its defining values is that education is a vital component to society and that everyone should have access to education and books. It has the mandate to help children to read and understand the importance of reading. Therefore, the Cloister Bookstore regularly donates books to various school’s prize giving and the Public Library. It is further involved in donating books to schools that have met with disasters, such as flooding.
Cloister has a longstanding relationship with the Ministry of Education and schools of all level – primary, secondary and tertiary. Cloister strives to provide a large selection of textbooks and stationery needs, working closely with schools and the Ministry to deliver the highest quality of books and stationery at the lowest prices. In addition to catering to the needs of schools, Cloister also offers a wide variety of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books.
The Cloister Bookstore was founded by Ann Musgrave on September 9th, 1958 and is currently managed by her daughter Janice Cave. It employs a local and longstanding staff of 13 many of whom have been with the company for over twenty years. There are three branches. Its main branch is located on Hinks Street, in addition to two other convenient locations – Sheraton Mall and the newly opened Dome at Warrens. The Cloister Bookstore is known for its exemplary customer service, affordable prices and family oriented literature.
